Welcome to Wienman Fine Instruments, where mandolins are hand crafted with passion and dedication in the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside of Asheville, North Carolina.  Our vision is to create instruments with character that possess the quick response, balance, power, tone, and depth of dynamic range that will inspire and satisfy the needs of even the most demanding professional musician, and help the aspiring artist take their music to the next level, at a price that represents a good value.  Instruments that exhibit the timeless artistry of a human touch and that quickly mature to possess that certain remarkable response, feel, voice, and look usually experienced and associated with fine vintage pieces.  But most of all, they're just incredibly fun to play!

We are lifelong musicians with far reaching musical tastes, and are fascinated by the effect a truly inspiring instrument can have on your music, as well as your life. Will has been collecting and studying wood and archtop instrument construction for over 50 years. Will owned and ran The Violin Gallery for over a decade.  He has owned and studied a high profile Mach 31, 1924 Fern Loar as well as numerous Italian and French fiddles by many of the top makers, some dating back to the 1700's.  Although Will's passion now finds its home most often in being out in the mountains and songwriting, he still manages to leave his mark on every instrument that leaves the shop.  Wes grew up around Will's violin shop and in a house filled with music.  It wasn't unusual to have a LLoyd Loar mandolin and a couple Italian fiddles around the house, or a group of people playing and singing in the living room.  Music and his fascination with sound and fine instruments have always been a part of his life.  Wes has been a full time luthier since 2015 and is responsible for the lion's share of the building.  We feel lucky to have spent years studying and repairing some of the finest instruments in the world, and are dedicated to and truly enjoy using the knowledge and skills we have acquired over the years to design and build our own instruments with their own unique response and voice.

Now that our instruments have been out there for a few years, we have to say that it's been enormously rewarding to see our mandos on Austin City Limits, The Grand Ole Opry, Grammy winning albums, eTown, and national TV, as well as concert stages, festival stages, jam sessions, and living rooms and front porches across the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia.  To everyone who has taken an interest in what we are doing and purchased one of our instruments we just want to say we genuinely appreciate you! We spent a lot of time and energy designing instruments that were built not only to be exceptionally inspiring to play, but as well to be instruments that would last for generations to come.  It's comforting to see these road warriors holding up after they've been subjected to some seriously intense touring in every situation, climate, and venue imaginable.  Built to inspire, built to last.
